DAN BOARDMAN
NEW BRUCE
MARCH 3–APRIL 14, 2018
OPENING RECEPTION:
SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 6–9 PM

321 Gallery presents New Bruce, Dan Boardman’s first solo exhibition in New York City.

Boardman’s recent work is a complex assortment of collage-like images arranged in grids, which combine methodically cut-out texts with photographs of assorted objects such as tools, fauna, and detritus. Combining these with hundreds of multiple-exposures and hand drawn objects, Boardman creates varying fields of depth that amount to dizzying, monumental pictures. Teeming with visual detail, the large-format prints reflect the role chance plays when natural observations, text referenced from self-help books, and differences in scale encounter each other.

Dan Boardman (b.1984, Ontario, CA) is an artist living and working in Union Springs, NY. Boardman received a BFA in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2008 and an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2012. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is held in both public and private collections. Boardman was shortlisted for the 2016 Aperture PhotoBook Award, was a 2015 Light Work Artist in Residence (Syracuse, NY), and a 2013 Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellow. His work has recently been exhibited at The Photography Gallery at Riley Hall, University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, IN), Sad Gallery (Seattle, WA), Harvard University (Cambridge, MA), the Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the Arts, and Musée des Beaux-Arts (Le Locle, SE). His publishing company, Houseboat Press, has recently exhibited at Aperture Gallery (New York, NY) and Off-Print (Paris, FR).
